About Wick Photography
Hi, my name is Blessing, and this is the story behind the origins of Wick Photography — a story that begins very early in my childhood, where my fascination with the camera was first born.
My dad owned a film camera back in the day, and he loved travelling around the country with my mum and me. Whenever we packed for a trip, he always made sure that the camera was never left behind. He captured every journey and every vacation, and when we returned home, he would have the photos developed. I always looked forward to seeing those pictures for the first time — that moment was the highlight of my day. Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to take the photos myself because I was “too young,” as he would say.
Those moments, though seemingly small, lit a fire in my soul and made me fall in love with the art of photography. There is something magical about seeing images printed on paper — it feels like the ultimate destination for every photograph. To me, a picture is not complete until it is brought to life in print.
Eventually, my mum allowed me to operate her camera. Holding it in my hands felt like a dream come true — my life changed forever in that moment. Time passed, and when lockdown arrived, I was finally able to purchase my first digital camera — the Canon 1100D. It was a capable beginner camera, and I spent countless hours learning, mostly through YouTube creators. I photographed everything I could find — from garden roses to experimenting with product photography. As my skills improved, I later upgraded to the Canon 700D.
Along the way, I learned a great deal from Karl Taylor on YouTube — his work is phenomenal, and I benefited immensely from his teachings. Tyler Shields was another major inspiration; his creativity and printed works are exceptional. Every day, I aspire to reach their level of mastery — not just in operating the camera, but in understanding and shaping light.
Eventually, I landed my very first client — Tanya. She took a chance on me, and although I struggled with imposter syndrome at first, I gave that shoot everything I had. That moment was monumental for me. It felt like a full-circle culmination of all the learning, practice, and passion that had built up over the years. I was ecstatic — completely beside myself with joy.
After that, I began actively seeking more “models,” driving around and offering shoots to people who were happy to be part of my learning journey. This marked the true beginning of Wick Photography in 2020. Word of mouth played a huge role in my growth — a snowball effect that continues to this day. I remain deeply grateful to every client who has been part of this journey. Many have become returning customers and loyal supporters of my work.
Over time, I’ve had the privilege of working with private schools as well as corporate clients. No matter the client, my professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality have remained consistent. Photography is a people-driven industry, and my people skills have grown tremendously — it’s important to leave every client with not just great images, but a great experience.
As we move into the future, Wick Photography aims to continue delivering high-quality work to people from all walks of life. The journey is still unfolding, and I am grateful to every collaborator and supporter who has walked this path with us — from my ever-present “models” to the website developers behind the scenes.
Our goal is simple: to provide the very best client experience in photography — from the moment of the shoot to the final printed image.
